Eugenia

Eugenia

Here’s the truth about Eugenia. I was drawing a blank when I sat down to create my 17th Girl. I looked through magazines, books and photographs. I remained uninspired. It wasn’t until surfing the net that I saw an image that generated a spark which I decided to elaborate on. I always felt a little guilty that her origins didn’t arise solely from my own imagination. Maybe that’s why her “coif” is sparse and no-frills rather than dense and abundant like the others. What’s interesting is that her name came easily when I studied the completed drawing. Eugenia. It oozes like thick satiny honey. I looked up its meaning and it is defined as “a woody evergreen tree or shrub with glossy ornamental leaves and the occasional red berry”. Voila, my “Girl”, Eugenia!
